Co-founder of the FreshWater Accountability Project, Lea Harper, and her husband, Steven Jansto, are suing the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD), the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Antero Resources Appalachian, and Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine.
The MWCD decided to enter into more oil and gas leases with the newer process of horizontal hydraulic fracturing (fracking). Existing oil and gas leases MWCD, nothing like this.
To make matters worse MWCD decided to sell reservoir water for drilling operations. MWCD currently sells water to Cadiz for their municipal water supply. Using water for human consumption is one thing; drilling is another.
Millions of gallons of water are used to fracture a single horizontal well. Lea and Steven have every right to be concerned for their property. There is risk of water contamination from fracking. A watershed conservancy district should not be putting their water at risk.
Lea and her husband, Steven, have many memories on the lake with their granddaughter. Read more about Lea’s Story here.
